Ron is a Professor of Biological Sciences at California State University, Sacramento where his students and he study the evolutionary ecology of fishes, particularly cichlid fishes. He is are particularly interested in their reproductive biology, parental care, and geographic distribution. He likes to combine lab work with field work in Central America. Equally important, He have been a cichlid hobbyist for almost 50 years. He is a member of the Pacific Coast Cichlid Association (PCCA), American Cichlid Association (ACA) and a lifetime member of the Sacramento Aquarium Society. He is the Editor of the Cichlidae Communique for the PCCA. He served as the webmaster for the ACA for many years and currently serve on the Board of Directors. His favorite cichlid is Tomocichla tuba, though he has many, many second favorites.
