Chris is an entrepreneur, conservationist, and hospitality expert with nearly 40 years of experience. He is the co-owner of Lake Shore Lodge on the pristine shores of Lake Tanganyika, a renowned destination offering adventure activities and unique accommodations since 2007. Alongside his work in hospitality, Chris co-founded SUSTAIN Lake Tanganyika, a non-profit dedicated to conserving the lake’s unique fish species and improving the livelihoods of local Tanzanians.
A passionate advocate for Lake Tanganyika’s biodiversity, Chris leads the effort to protect the lake’s famed cichlids from over-extraction. This includes the establishment of the 1,000-meter no-fish, no-extraction zone around Nkondwe Island—the first protected area outside of a national park on the lake. Understanding the link between environmental conservation and human well-being, Chris’s projects also aim to offer alternative livelihood opportunities for the local communities, helping to break their dependency on the lake for survival.
In addition to his conservation efforts, Chris is the co-owner of Tanganyika Aquahub, which further contributes to sustainable aquaculture practices in the region.
Christopher, a builder by trade, thrives on fixing things, problem-solving, and overcoming challenges. He believes in the power of positivity and possibility, driven by the mantra that adversity makes us stronger and that there’s no such thing as a setback—only learning experiences.
